City of Quinte West Announces New Doctor Recruitment Program
You’re a medical student or resident.
You’re looking ahead for an opportunity after you finish school.
You’ve heard about Ontario’s shortage of doctors, but you want to make the right decision
Welcome to Quinte West.
An affordable, growing city where the Trent River meets Lake Ontario only 1.5 hours east of Toronto, Ontario.
A natural attraction for a graduate who not only wants to establish their family physician practice in a state-of-the-art turn-key facility, but who wants to enjoy one of the best natural settings in Ontario. You’ll be surrounded by great boating, fishing, golf, hiking, biking, wineries, jazz, theatre, country inns and the prettiest countryside - all at your doorstep.
The Quinte West Medical Centre, approved under the family health team model is adjacent to the recently expanded 70 bed Trenton Memorial Hospital and can accommodate as many as five full-time physicians.
With offices administered by the Centre, you can focus on providing quality health care, not running a business. In return for a five year commitment to practice, qualified medical graduates are eligible for a financial support package of $100K, plus other incentives. Under the terms of the program, new family doctors will receive $20,000/year for five years (total of $100,000) upon signing an agreement to open their family medical practice in the Quinte
West Medical Centre.
Our commitment to personal attention will make you feel truly welcome in Quinte West.
To meet the primary health care needs now and in the future, the
Quinte West community initiated the development of the Quinte West Medical
Centre. One of the key components of the strategy is to attract and retain
primary care physicians to our community.
The Centre operates as an independent non-profit corporation run
by a volunteer Board of Directors that ensures proper representation from the
Community.
The Centre is conveniently located behind Quinte Health Care
Trenton Memorial Hospital occupying 4,500 square feet on the lower level of the
Trenton Memorial Lodge. This provides space for up to five (full time
equivalent) doctors operating in a multi physician primary care practice
environment. Currently there is one family physician and two qualified support
staff who officially opened the doors to the centre in October 2004. The QWMC is
currently looking for and recruiting additional family doctors.
This Quinte West initiative is supported by the community,
hospital, and city as well as being strongly endorsed by our local physicians
group. The Quinte West Medical Centre is a turnkey operation.
