Municipal Performance
Section 299 of the Municipal Act, 2001 requires all Ontario municipalities to provide information to their taxpayers on specific performance-related measures by September 30th of each year. Known as the Municipal Performance Measurement Program, this reporting requirement is part of the Province's effort to "balance greater municipal authority with better accountability".
The Municipal Performance Measurement Program measures service delivery performance and addresses both efficiency and effectiveness of municipal services. The services selected reflect major cost areas, provincial-municipal interests, areas of high interest and value to the public, areas for which data is relatively easy to collect, and programs that fall under municipal responsibility.
