GRAFFITI HOTLINE
The City of Quinte West has created a new Graffiti Hotline that is a Public Service which will allow citizens to report graffiti vandalism on public and private property within the City. Citizens may report sightings of graffiti via telephone to 613-392-2841, extension 4547 or by completing an online form that will be emailed to the City’s Property Standards By-law officers (link below). The Public may also utilize the City’s mapping system to pinpoint the location of the graffiti for City staff.
Graffiti vandalism is any writing, drawing or symbols applied to any surface without the consent of the property owner. Research has shown that graffiti vandalism decreases the sense of public safety, threatens the enjoyment of parks and open spaces, lowers property values and reduces investment in a community.
The City recently passed the Graffiti Implements By-law prohibiting the sale of graffiti implements to individuals under the age of 18 and the Graffiti Management By-law that states that the responsibility of graffiti removal lies with the property owner.
Mayor Williams and Council encourages the public to assist the City in decreasing graffiti vandalism while increasing the Public’s awareness about this crime.

Graffiti By-laws
In response to the increase in destruction to public and private property over the past year due to graffiti vandalism, the City of Quinte West has introduced a by-law to restrict the sale of graffiti implements to individuals under the age of 18.
The sale of spray paint, broad tipped marker pens, paint pens, and glass cutting tools and glass etching tools or instruments will be prohibited to individuals under the age of 18 and regulated in accordance with this by-law.
The Graffiti Implements By-law as presented at a Public Meeting held on March 31, 2009, was approved by Council on Monday April 20, 2009 and comes into effect on May 1, 2009.
