Open Air Burning and the Setting of Controlled Fires

It is required that a Certificate of Notification must be obtained prior to setting a fire in Quinte West, in accordance with By-law 02-13.

It is the responsibility of the person receiving a Certificate of Notification to be aware of the requirements of By-law 02-13. This will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Fire Dispatch must be notified before any burning takes place for Sidney Ward 2 - 613-962-1297, or Murray Ward 3 - 613-394-6184

  • Burning must be 10 meters (33.81 ft) from any property line

  • Any burning must take place only between the time of sunrise and sunset

  • There must be someone in attendance at all times

  • The fire must be fully extinguished before the attendant leaves the area

  • Maximum size of the fire not to exceed 3 metres X 3 metres X 3 metres

  • Material cannot be transferred to or from another property

  • Material cannot be moved in from outside the City of Quinte West

  • Material cannot emit noxious or toxic smoke or gases

A Certificate of Notification can be purchased for $15 at Fire Station #1 (Front Street, Trenton) or at City Hall in Trenton or the Frankford Office. Certificates expire on December 31st, each year. For further information call the Fire Station at 613-392-6555.
