Quinte West Fire / Rescue is a Composite Fire Department with a compliment of 16 Full Time Staff and 124 Volunteer Firefighters. This includes the Fire Chief John Whelan, one Administrative Assistant and two Fire Prevention Officers, four full time firefighter platoons, 6 Division Commanders and 7 Fire Stations.
Fire Protection is provided with a vehicle fleet of 40 fire trucks, to an area of approximately 500 sq. km’s.
The Fire Department recently received its Essential Level Achievement Letter from Emergency Management Ontario and the City is very proud of its state of Emergency Preparedness for City Disasters.
Quinte West Fire / Rescue is also the home of one of the few Provincially Certified Dive Teams as well as 4 Marine Units, covering the Trent Waterway and the Bay of Quinte.
The City enjoys a Superior Water Shuttle Accreditation through Fire Underwriters and it is able to maintain fire flows in any area of Quinte West, (Rural or Urban).
The City’s Firefighter Combat Challenge Team has once again placed first in a recent Regional Competition and they have qualified for the National’s in Edmonton.
Quinte West Fire / Rescue, maintains the Fire Safety House for the Hastings and Prince Edward County Mutual Fire Aid Association and it travels throughout the Quinte, Hastings and Prince Edward Counties all summer. It was proudly named after Jerry Candler, a valued member of the Fire Department and former Fire Prevention Officer with Quinte West and Sidney, who passed away in Aug 98. The Fire Safety House was named, “The Candler House” to recognize
Jerry’s commitment and dedication to Public Safety.
The City holds the lease for the Training Tower Complex on Chester Road in the Trenton Ward. The Training Tower is owned and operated by the Hastings and Prince Edward Counties Mutual Fire Aid Association which the City of Quinte West is a member.
